Bad Dreams of Angry Craigslisters!

So, I have created another totally different blog. I really couldn't help myself. I honestly have better things to do with my time....OK, that's a lie. But nonetheless, I have better things I should be doing with my time. It all started because of Craigslist. As  you know, I love junkin'. I like finding cheap things and make them look like I just got it delivered from Pottery Barn. Pottery Barn is the Devil...not really, but to me it is because it just taunts me with their gorgeous things, and ideas, and I can't even afford a damn place mat there! But that's a whole 'nother story.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, Craigslist. I spend way too much time looking at all the things on Craigslist, well..except for that one area that we will just not mention. I have come to realize, that people like selling their crap...and I mean that in the literal sense. I started to find it quite amusing, so I created a blog called Craigslist Finest Treasures. It's basically a mockery of all of the items people are selling that, well, they shouldn't be.

Back to my nightmare. The other night I dreamt that people who owned said atrocities found my blog, and were angry and offended because of my mockery...and they were coming to get me! I woke up kinda feeling sorry about what I was doing, but then I realized ....that was stupid. If they have the audacity to sell that stuff, then I have the audacity to mock them for it!

Let the mockery resume!

Hello, my name is Rita, and I am addicted to reconditioning junk.

It's official. I stood up, and finally confessed to everyone (when I say everyone, I mean the people in my house that are approximately an ear shot away).... that I am an addict. I sit for hours looking at Craigslist for things that nobody wants, I go to all the local thrift stores to get the items people no longer saw the good in. I am going to hit the flea market this weekend just to see other peoples junk. I don't know why, but it's consuming my thoughts. I keep thinking of all the different ways I can use the things I get, and that I get so cheaply!

For instance, here is a old dresser that I picked up at the thrift store. It's gorgeous to me. The antique knobs and handles, the beautiful lines on the legs, and the best part...it's SOLID wood. They don't make furniture like this anymore! I bought this piece for $18.00!

I plan on reconditioning this piece into a dinning room buffet table. It's the perfect size. I will show you the finished product as soon as I am finished with it.

I also picked up this vintage, solid oak table:
I really liked the look of it. I didn't want to change it much so I cleaned it up really well and used it as my entry table. I think it looks adorable.

I want to distress the coat rack shelf a bit, but I couldn't find the sandpaper. I need to make a run to Lowes again!

Our house is finally getting a bit of charm to it. I hope I can stop my addiction before I get it too charming!

I have a fever..and the only prescription is more Sangria!

I just found out about this deliciousness cocktail. Why have I never had this before?? I went out to eat at my favorite Mexican Restaurant, Santi's in Charleston,... and the bartender gave me a sample of this masterpiece. It's so refreshing, and very tastey! I am going to have to go back to get their recipe for it, because with all of my Googling investigation, I cannot seem to find the recipe that comes close to theirs. I know for sure it had pineapples, granny smith apples, grapes and spices. I need to know the secret ingredient..ok...all the ingredients.

One thing is for sure...I have to remember that it's still alcohol, because it's so easy to drink that ...well, it makes it easy to keep drinking it, and before you know it, you've had 4 too many, and people seem funnier and you start to sound funny.

If you know of a good recipe...please share, especially if you know of one that has pineapples, granny smith apples, grapes, and spices. OR..if you have the recipe that Santi's uses. Don't worry..I'll keep it on the DL.

Dreaming of a fire pit.

Ok, so I'm really not dreaming for one, but for the last couple of years, I've been wanting a fire pit. One of those pretty bronze, round kind. I've been wanting so we can sit outside and enjoy the nightfall, make S'mores, roast hot dogs, and tell ghost stories .....just like you see in movies.  The reason I thought of this today was because I bought stuff to make S'mores last night, but nuking them just doesn't cut it. Totally not the same flavor, and missing out on the cool factor.

I might take a gander on Craigslist for one, because I for sure want one by the fall, but I don't really want to spend too much on it. The one in the picture is what I want, but can't really see spending $160 bucks on it.  Plus, it's kinda stupid to get one right now since it's still 80 degrees at night, not to mention that I am getting eaten up by bugs as if I rubbed some sort of delicious bug food all over my body. Ahhh, the price I pay for being as sweet as I am.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering......I love roasted hot dogs. I prefer them a little burnt and loaded with just mustard. :)

Thinking about junkin'.

I think I am going to set out to find some junk. Okay, not real junk..just someone elses. I have the itch to go to the thrift store and find an incredible whatever. Whatever someone didn't see the potential in, and transform it into my treasure.

It amazes me what people throw out, but then again, it also amazes me of what some people keep. The whole "junkin'" experience isn't really just about being frugal. To me, that's the least of the reasons why I do it. I truly just enjoy getting something that someone gave away or better yet, threw away, and transforming it into something amazing. The feeling is intoxicating...the rush of the finished product, the responses when you get from people when you show them what it originally looked like(that reminds me...I have to take more pictures), and finding the perfect spot in our home that just gives it a little more of my touch.

Let's hope I find something really cool, so I can update with my treasures. Sometimes though, someones junk...really is just junk.

*bought this water pitcher at a thrift store and use it as a cute vase.

What are we gonna do tomorrow?

Ah, summertime...I have a love/hate relationship with summertime. I hate waking up early in the morning to get the kids up for school, therefore, I love sleeping in during the summertime because the kids are out of school. The problem with that?...I have to entertain the kids while we are awake! That's a difficult, and exhausting task!

"Let's go to the beach" comes out of their mouths on a daily basis. Did I mention, we live about 40 minutes away from the beach? I love going to the beach...once I'm there! I hate traffic, parking, carrying: coolers, chairs, umbrella, various beach toys, radio. Did I forget anything?? Oh yes, burning the beejeezus out of our feet while walking on the sand, and getting stung by the jellies.

So...what are we gonna do tomorrow?

I'm in love....

with the way my boyfriend cooks. I am shocked I haven't gained an unbelievable amount of weight since I started dating him. He is a professional Chef, so that does help a bit. On the downside of dating a Chef, it's very unsettling trying to cook for one, especially because I am NOT a professional Chef. My cooking skills (what little I did have) have totally gone down hill.

Tonight we had braised short ribs, real mashed potatoes and steamed string beans. All were seasoned perfectly. Now we are all trying to make room for the strawberry shortcake. I'm one lucky girl!

Damn, I need to get back to working out!

Up and running

Ah.. finally picked a theme that I like, but knowing me, it'll probably be changed with no time at all. Should be sleeping but as usual, can't. I am thinking of all the things I would like to do with this blog. Time to set goals and more importantly, accomplish them. I'm going to use this blog to sort of go through my everyday ideas, and see how much I can actually accomplish. "They" always say, If you write it down, you'll actually achieve your goals. So here we go.
